"Terrible Experience with Customer Service"
I’d advise caution when buying from this company and its associated entity, Fascinators 4 Weddings, since they handle the payments. If only I had checked Trust Pilot before making my purchase! I hope my review helps anyone who might feel stuck needing to buy from here, as it’s the only spot for their product. Check it out quickly, and if there’s an issue, act fast. I’ve seen others mention similar troubles even within their returns policy timeframe.

I bought a hat as a Christmas gift for my brother well ahead of time (December 5th). When he finally got it on Boxing Day, he told me it didn’t fit. So, I reached out to Winter Hats 4U on December 28th.

The response was immediately defensive and unhelpful. The guy claimed my 14-day window for a refund had passed and refused to swap the hat for one that actually fits. I measured the hat, and it was 1cm bigger than what was labeled, which can make a big difference in how it fits—either snugly or flopping around in the wind.

After a few uncomfortable emails back and forth, I was told that if it was too large, I could get a refund since he could return it to the manufacturer as faulty. I sent the hat back (at my own expense) with a video showing my precise measurements. There’s no doubt that the hat is larger than advertised.

Two weeks later, I followed up with WH4U for an update. I was told they were still processing returns, which was somewhat reassuring, but then I faced more resistance. They claimed they had measured the hat three times and it was as expected—no proof of that, unlike my video evidence. Every time I responded, they denied the size issue, despite my clear video proof. I received comments about how the manufacturer has been making quality hats since 1903 and other irrelevant points, like comparing the hat size to my brother’s head.

He kept saying he’d ask the director for a goodwill gesture while holding onto my money and the hat. It’s all one person, so that felt odd. He also mentioned that goodwill had to come from both sides, which was strange since I had repeatedly said I was fine with an exchange.

There’s been zero basic customer service or any effort to resolve this. Initially, I was open to getting a replacement hat as long as they took the time to measure it correctly—after all, I still wanted that Christmas gift. I have the same hat in a different color and size that fits perfectly, unlike the one I bought.

Now, I just want my money back. After spending 20% of the hat’s value to return it, I’ll be out of pocket even if I do get a refund. I’ve sought advice from Citizens Advice, but they keep insisting this is a Consumer Contracts Regulations 2014 issue, focusing on my notification being outside their 14-day return policy. They don’t offer any leniency for Christmas returns, which is unusual. This hat wasn’t as described—it’s larger than labeled. This is a Consumer Rights issue under the 2015 Act, which states goods must match their description. I’ve offered to go through an ADR scheme, but he’s not interested because I won’t promise to drop it if he wins.

It’s amusing how he’s urging unhappy customers on Trust Pilot to retract their negative reviews, claiming it harms small businesses. We’re just sharing our honest experiences to help others decide whether to do business with them. I don’t usually write reviews, but this situation has pushed me to express my frustration with their unreasonable service. My advice? They need to improve their customer service and be reasonable in both communication and actions, rather than pushing customers toward legal action. I suspect they think most people won’t bother to pursue it further.
